Radiofrequency Systems Measurement Engineer

Position Title: Electronics Engineer | Series/Grade: ZP–0855 – Band II or III 
Salary: $44,075.00 - $84,797.00 | Relocation Authorized: No

Duties:

  • Conduct scientific and engineering research of radio spectrum use and electromagnetic compatibility between new and legacy radio systems by developing new methods, procedures, and measurement systems for conducting system tests and propagation measurements in both laboratory and field environments.
  • Design, develop, optimize and implement radiofrequency measurement systems comprised of commercial off the shelf components (RF amplifiers, filters, couplers, combiners, etc.) and test equipment (spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, and vector signal generators) which will be used to assess receiver susceptibility to interference and transmitter spectrum usage and channel occupancy.
  • Conceptualize, design, and implement automated radio frequency test systems using the above measurement systems and the Matlab™ Instrument Control Toolbox or Python.
  • Analyze and model spectrum usage derived from published transmitter specifications, spectrum surveys, and channel occupancy measurements with an emphasis on commercial mobile systems such as LTE. Reduce data to statistical summaries of usage and collaborate with communications theoreticians to develop models of radio system behaviors.
  • Troubleshoot and mitigate radiofrequency interference problems encountered by a broad variety of federal government radio systems in field environments.
  • Develop new test methods and procedures, conduct experiments, analyze data, and produce written reports of findings.

Education Requirements:

Applicants must possess a degree in professional engineering. The curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics. OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good theoretical and practical understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: 

  • Professional registration - Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineerin- Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration.
  • Specified academic courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements.
  • Related curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. 

Education requirements:

Applicants must possess a degree in Information technology, Information Security, Network Engineering OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience in the development and secure operation of IT networks. CISCO certifications, to include CCNA, CCNP Security Certifications and CCIE Security.

Computer Scientist

Position Title: Computer Scientist | Series/Grade: ZP–1550 – Band II or III 
Salary: $44,075.00 - $84,797.00 | Relocation Authorized: No

Duties:

  • Responsible for implementing complex mathematical algorithms and developing software implementations using a variety of software languages, applications, and frameworks.
  • Contribute to the accomplishment of professional and scientific work in the design, development, and adaptation of mathematical and statistical methods and computer science techniques in analysis of data management problems.
  • Create test plans and procedures; and project planning and tracking documentation. This will include utilizing configuration management systems; creating architecture and design documentation; and specifying system design requirements.
  • Verify, validate, debug, troubleshoot, and test software implementations.
  • On a regular basis, use oral and written communication skills to work in a team-based environment, meeting regularly to provide status updates.
  • Applicant must be willing to travel up to 15%.

Education requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
