Abstract: Strong electromagnetic (EM) energy sources up into the microwave range are examined and estimates are made of maximum EM field conditions to which automobiles could be exposed. The results are meant to alert automotive engineers to potentially hazardous EM radiation that might upset on-board electronic control devices.

Keywords: ambient free field conditions; electromagnetic environment; EM degradation; field strength maxima; strong EM field sources
