Measurements of the Performance of Two HF log Periodic Antennas at the Lincoln Receiving Site of McClellan AFB

Abstract: Antenna performance measurements were made on five HF antennas to determine their acceptance as prototype antennas for the Air Force HF communication circuits. The impedances. power gain, and radiation patterns of two of the log periodic antennas are presented in this report. The radiation patterns were measured by flying transmitting antennas around the antennas under test, and recording the response of the test antenna as functions of the space coordinates. The horizont ally polarized antennas have met the specifications set by the Air Force between 4 and 30 MHz. The vertically polarized antenna performed as specified between 6 and 30. MHz except that the maximum power gain of the antenna at 10.800 MHz and 30.030 MHz was about 7 dB below the specified level.
