Meteor Burst Communications Model

Abstract: The meteor burst communications model is a user-interactive computer model that predicts the reliability of a communications system that uses meteor bursts as the communications channel. The model predicts the waiting times required to complete the transfer of messages from a master station to a remote station as a function of frequency, transmitter and receiver characteristics, system protocol, distance separation, time of year, and time of day. The model also allows the user to specify a network of stations including the master, remote, and relay stations. Waiting time estimates are computed for the entire network. The model is implemented on a mini-computer operated by the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences. Model users remotely access the computer from their own terminals over telephone lines.
