Abstract: The Institute for Telecommunication Sciences with the aid of the U. S. Bureau of the Census has undertaken a study of the distribution of the population within 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 miles of 1120 selected television market centers within the United States, 185 in Canada, and those 56 in Mexico that are not more than 300 miles from the United States border. Maps and tables of the data are provided. Although the principal use of these results is for studies of coverage and assignment of television channels, they should be equally useful for the standard and FM broadcast channels, and will no doubt also be of interest in connection with the solution of other economic and social problems. A magnetic tape is available at ITS that gives the population within each of the Standard Location Areas developed by the Bureau of the Census for the United States, Canada, and Mexico; this tape can be used on our digital computer to estimate the population within various distances from arbitrary points in those countries.
