Abstract:

During the spring of 1969, measurements of received signal level, message channel quality, and other pertinent system parameters were made on two radio links of the Integrated Wideband Communication System in Thailand. The program was initiated to investigate a number of radio links in Thailand that appeared deficient in received signal level and exhibited unexplained noise bursts in the voice, channels during acceptance testing. Revised estimates of transmission loss were made taking local vegetation into account. Transmission line losses were measured and corrected estimates of received signal level distributions plotted. Calculated distributions of signal level are compared with those derived from measurements. A series of measurements specifically designed to check equipment performance isolated several factors that were contributing to degraded system performance.
