Abstract:

System design questions associated with the development of an ocean data HF transmission system for the Integrated Global Ocean Station System (IGOSS) and the National Data Buoy Systems are considered. These include (1) development of a computer model of the data transmission system for design and operational coordination purposes, (2) formulation of the bandwidth-time allocation problem on a formal mathematical optimization basis, (3) review of the advantages and disadvantages of two methods of initiating data readout from remote platforms, and (4) evaluation of two basic data transmission methods. Recommendations for future work are made.
