Standard Video Sequences and Datasets
In the early 1990s, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) created standard sets of video sequences for standard definition television. These standard sets of interlaced video test scenes were designed to evaluate subjective and objective testing of digital video systems.
ANSI T1.801.01-1995
The ANSI test sequences are in the public domain. These NTSC sequences can be downloaded for free from the Consumer Digital Video Library. On the advanced search screen, select “ANSI T1.801.01" on the Dataset pull-down list.
ITU-R Rec. BT.802
The ITU test sequences are in the public domain. There are two sets of videos: 525-line (NTSC) and 625-line (PAL). These sequences can be downloaded for free from the Consumer Digital Video Library. On the advanced search screen, select “ITU-R Rec. BT-802 525-line” or “ITU-R Rec. BT-802 625-line” on the Dataset pull-down list.
Unfortunately, some of the 625-line sequences were missing from the final ITU distribution and ITS was not able to locate copies of those missing videos.
VQEG Validation Datasets
The Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) performs subjective video quality tests to independently validate objective video quality metrics, prior to their inclusion in ITU Recommendations. Some of these VQEG datasets are available on Consumer Digital Video Library. On the advanced search screen, select “VQEG Subjective Tests” on the Dataset pull-down list.
