“Subject bias: Introducing a theoretical user model,” a paper co-authored by Professor Lucjan Janowski of the Department of Telecommunication at AGH University of Science and Technology, (Kraków, Poland) and ITS engineer Margaret H. Pinson, won the Best Paper Award at QoMEX 2014. The paper demonstrates that individual subjects bring individual biases to subjective video tests, and that those biases can be removed to gain improved resolving power without increasing test size. This is an important result with practical applications and the award is a strong endorsement of the work of the ITS Video Quality Research program by the international research community. The IEEE-sponsored International Workshop on Quality of Multimedia Experience (QoMEX) annually brings together leading experts from academia and industry interested in evaluating multimedia quality and user experience.
