Foundations, Applications, and Assessment of Wavelets
David A. Sutherland Jr.
Abstract: This report is an introduction to wavelet theory intended for the technical professional working in telecommunications. The basics of wavelet theory are presented with an emphasis on explanation of the principles and ideas involved rather than on the mathematical proofs. Differences between the wavelet transform and the windowed Fourier transform are pointed out. Wavelet applications to several issues important to telecommunications are presented.
Keywords: signal processing; filter bank; filters; harmonic analysis; time-frequency methods; wavelets; wavelet transform; windowed Fourier transform
