Abstract: This guide focuses on a key portion (subsystem) of the radio communications system--the antenna system. Although the antenna itself may be the most visible element of radio communications equipment, it is often the least understood. This guide defines and describes the components of the antenna system as well as the fundementals and characteristics of the antenna itself.

Keywords: radio propagation; antenna; land mobile radio (LMR); gain; public safety; bandwidth; directivity; radio transmission
